About Duke Lutherans
Duke Lutherans is a community “called to life together”—and we try to take the “together” part of that seriously. Here’s what that means to us:
We are called to life together on CAMPUS. This means gathering for Evening Prayer and fellowship meals, Bible studies and Pub Theology, game nights and conversations over coffee…lots of coffee. We gather as undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students and welcome ALL of God's beloved children
We are called to life together in our two local partner CONGREGATIONS, St. Paul’s (ELCA) and Grace (LCMS). This means sharing home-cooked meals, worshipping together, and sharing life with 8-year olds, 80-year olds…and everyone in between.
We are called to life together in our COMMUNITY. This means taking part in what Durham has to offer, including hiking in Eno State Park and going to live music in Durham’s Central Park. But it also means listening to the needs of our neighbors and trying to meet those needs faithfully. It means learning from Durham’s leaders about our city’s challenges around affordable housing, food insecurity, and homelessness. It means tutoring kids from Durham Public Schools, eating meals with neighbors we may not otherwise break bread with, and walking alongside newly-arrived refugee families as they navigate life in a new place. It means learning the stories and history of this community by going on a Durham History Hub bike tour, or participating in the Durham Pilgrimage of Pain and Hope.
And we are called to life together with YOU—alumni, family, visitors, and friends new and old—who are an important part of the Duke Lutherans community. We look forward to sharing life together with you this year, a life that God gives us as a gift, undeservedly and abundantly.
