What We Do

Sunday Evening Prayer + Fellowship Dinner

Be fed spiritually with a simple, contemplative service of prayer, music, Bible readings, and Holy Communion, and physically with a free and homemade meal. All are welcomed, affirmed, and loved. And you don't have to be (or become) Lutheran to join us!

5:30 pm
Evening Prayer + Holy Communion (Sunday nights during the school year)

6:30 pm
Fellowship Dinner (with vegetarian options)

Location: Duke Lutherans Center (824 N. Buchanan)

The DLC is located on Grace Lutheran's lower level, less than a 10-minute walk from the East campus bus stop. From campus, turn left onto Buchanan. The church is on the right-hand side at the corner of Buchanan and Green, with a ramp leading down to the DLC's entrance. There's also free parking in the lot across Green St. Look for our sign outside!

Caring for Our Neighbors and God's World

Tutoring - Join us for tutoring on Tuesday nights, where tutors are paired with a student (K-12) from Durham Public Schools. Speak Spanish? Most of the students are part of Durham’s Latino community. Don’t speak Spanish? That’s OK too, you just might pick up a bit along the way!

Grace Community Meals - Third Saturdays at Grace Lutheran Church (824 N. Buchanan) during the school year, 5:30 p.m.

Duke Lutherans and Durham community members share in a community meal with neighbors, where everyone has something to give and everyone has something to receive. We gather each month to cook, eat, share stories, and get to know neighbors from across age, religious tradition, language, and culture.

Weekly Breakfasts - Thursdays at St. Joseph's Episcopal Church (1902 W. Main St, across from East Campus)

8-8:30 am: Eat and enjoy, 8:45-9:30 am: Clean up

Duke Lutherans gather to help serve and share breakfast with hungry neighbors in Durham. All are welcome to the table. Let us know if you’d like to take part!

Seminarian Support

Navigating the Lutheran ordination process? Feeling called to ministry? Duke Lutherans provides information, fellowship, pastoral leadership opportunities, and support throughout the candidacy process.

Pub Theology

At Martin Luther’s “Table Talks,” Luther and friends would gather at a table for lively theological conversation. We do the same at Pub Theology, a monthly gathering for folks across faith tradition and across the Durham community. We talk about topics like included Faith + Borders, Faith + Gender, Faith + Food, Faith + Money, Faith + Suffering, and Faith + Imagination, among others. Friends, family, and first-timers are warmly welcome!
