What We Do
What Does “Life Together” Entail?
Sunday Evening Prayer + Communion and Dinner
Be fed physically in the fellowship dinner and spiritually in a contemplative service of Word + Sacrament (Communion). Come to be nourished, restored, encouraged, and strengthened for the journey. Come, for the table is prepared and ALL are welcome.

Weekly Fellowship Lunches
Thursdays @ 11:30 pm at the tables outside of Panera (West Union, lower level)
Stop by anytime between 11:30 am - 12:30 pm to share food and fellowship. Duke Lutherans picks up the tab every other week!
Weekly Jeremiah Bible Study
Thursdays @ 12:30 pm at the tables outside of Panera
Join us from 12:30 - 1:30 pm as we discuss the prophet Jeremiah! Depending on weather, we meet at the tables outside of Panera or inside the Brodhead Center.
Bilingual Tutoring
Tuesdays at Pilgrim UCC @ 7:30 pm
Duke Lutherans doesn’t just happen on campus…it happens throughout the neighborhood! Join us for tutoring each week, where tutors are paired with a student (K-12) from Durham Public Schools. Speak Spanish? Most of the students are part of Durham’s Latino community. Don’t speak Spanish? That’s OK too, you just might pick up a bit along the way!
Community Dinners
Third Saturdays at the Grace House @ 6 pm
Duke Lutherans and Durham community members are invited to the front porch of Grace House each month, where we share in a community meal with neighbors. Grace House serves as a community gathering place, where everyone has something to give and everyone has something to receive. We gather each month to cook, eat, share stories, and get to know neighbors from across age, religious tradition, language, and culture.
Weekly Breakfasts
Fridays at St. Joseph’s @ 7:30 am
Each Friday, Duke Lutherans gather to share breakfasts with hungry neighbors in Durham. All are welcome to the table. Let us know if you’d like to take part!
PathWays Community Garden
Duke Lutherans and neighbors in the West End community are beginning a community garden at the PathWays House on Kent St. If you’re interested in taking part or learning more, let us know!
Seminarian Support
Navigating the Lutheran ordination process? Feeling called to ministry? Duke Lutherans provides information, fellowship, and support throughout the candidacy process.
Pub Theology
Please note: Although Pub Theology is currently on hold, we hope to resume soon!
At Martin Luther’s “Table Talks,” Luther and friends would gather at a table for lively theological conversation. We do the same at Pub Theology, a monthly gathering for folks across faith tradition and across the Durham community. We talk about topics like included Faith + Borders, Faith + Gender, Faith + Food, Faith + Money, Faith + Suffering, and Faith + Imagination, among others. Friends, family, and first-timers are warmly welcome!
