A major area of food waste is in farmers’ fields, where crops that don’t meet top-grade quality are left to rot. “Gleaning” is the biblical practice of gathering crops that would otherwise be wasted. The Gleaning Network works to connect growers and distribution agencies to salvage this food for those who are hungry. Duke students are invited to join Duke Chapel on 10/5 from 8 am-12 pm to glean sweet potatoes at First Fruits Farm. Transportation is available. Sign up here to take part.
